My cheapest/good deal trip to Hawaii Island (Big ISland)..
I believe my trip was cheapest mainly because of airfare. Here are the deals I got for my Big Island trip for 5 days & 4 nights and 2 people:
Airfare: $99 each way from Oakland,CA (OAK) to Hilo,Hi (ITO) non stop and back.
Hotel: Avg. $70 + tax per night for partial ocean view 3 star hotel.
Car: $33.30 + tax per day economy car rental
Airfare: $99 + tax one way fare from Oakland,CA (OAK) to Hilo, HI. Total came around $434 for 2 people incl. tax. This was special running from ATA airline in March 2007. I was very lucky to get this fare as ATA had this deal on weekend when I was already thinking about visiting Big Island and I fixed my plan as soon as I saw this deal.
Hotel: Avg. $70 night for a partial ocean view deluxe room in 3 star hotel, total 4 nights. Inclusive tax it came out ~$ 312 total for 2 people.
Car: I used Dollar Car rental & 10% discount by paying through Amex credit card. $163 for 4 days, economy car.
I could have saved more on hotel, by living in $35-40 a night in bunker style motel where bathrooms are shared. But this time I was not not interested in that. :-)
